Charleston WV is the capital of the state of West Virginia and the county seat of Kanawha County.  The capitol building and complex is located in downtown Charleston near the historic district which features an area of beautifully restored homes for sale along a tree-lined street.  Across the river from the capitol is an area called Kanawha City.  This area is comprised of beautiful real estate and homes located along the Kanawha River, a central commercial district with commercial real estate offerings, and an area of large, exclusive subdivisions along the mountain ridges.  Also located along the southern parts of town is the South Hills area known for some of the highest priced real estate in Charleston WV.  This area is often sought out for its highly rated schools.
